CHERRYFIELD – On the morning of Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, the Lord welcomed Arletta Opal Ray Tucker to her permanent home in heaven. She was born June 1, 1927, in Milbridge, to Leroy and Eva Mitchell Ray. She was the younger of their two children; Ivan Ray was her older brother. As a family they ventured into various canning product companies, with the most successful being canning sardines. The family owned and operated L. Ray Packing Co., Milbridge and Machiasport Packing Co. Upon the death of Mrs. Tucker’s father, she and Ivan continued to operate the family business. Mrs. Tucker attended public schools in Milbridge and Husson College, Bangor. She and Everett were happily wed Oct. 4, 1951. For many years she and her husband, Everett, owned and operated Ocean Breeze Cabins and Cottages, Milbridge. She is sadly missed by her three daughters and their families, Etta and son-in-law, Stephen, of Thomaston, Lisa and grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and Katie Swanson, of Glenburn and Trudy and son-in-law, Charles, and grandchildren, Micah and Joshua Heanssler, of Rockport. Mrs. Tucker is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sarah Tucker of Cherryfield; and nephews and their families, Gary and Paula, Ray and Lawrence, and Druscilla Ray, all of Milbridge. Mrs. Tucker was predeceased by her infant son, Everett William Tucker Jr.; her husband, Everett William Tucker; her brother, Ivan Ray; and her parents, Leroy and Eva Ray. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at First Baptist Church, Cherryfield, with Pastor Ambrose Rolfe officiating. Interment will be at Pinegrove Cemetery, Cherryfield.
