BANGOR and PENSACOLA, Fla. – Richard J. Caruso passed away peacefully Aug. 22, 2010. He was born March 29, 1929, in Bangor, son of Pasquale and Lilly (Bilson) Caruso. Richard attended John Bapst High School and was a longtime member of Bangor Elks Club. He owned numerous businesses in Bangor, including a popular grocery store on Main Street – The Canteen, and in 1981 took over local takeout Dana’s Grill, which remains in the family today. His vision created the success Dana’s has enjoyed throughout the past 30 years. He sold cars in the Bangor area for more than 30 years and retired from Bean and Conquest in 1993. In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is also survived by his son, Warren Caruso and his wife, Nicole, along with two grandchildren, Nathan and Luke; four sisters, Lillie Ciminera of Prospect, Conn., Jeannette Perry of Brewer, Marleen Sonderman of Prospect, Conn., and Theresa Grieblier of Hastings, Minn.; one brother, Jack Caruso of Brewer; stepchildren, Allan and George Ordway; good friend and caretaker, Nadine Henry; numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 8 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with a reception for friends and family after the service noon-2 p.m. at 117 Webster Ave., Bangor.
