GREENVILLE – Aurora “Lola” Whitman, 90, died peacefully Sept. 3, 2010, with her family by her side at C.A. Dean Hospital. She was born May 22, 1920, in Fresno, Calif., a daughter of Armuito and Viviana (Silva) Martinez. Her early years were spent in San Antonio, Texas, where she met her husband, Forrest Whitman, while stationed in the Air Force. They were married in 1944. They moved to Auburn and Waterville, before moving to Greenville in 1960, where she spent the rest of her life. While in Greenville she was an active member of Union Church and C.A. Dean Hospital Auxiliary. Lola, as she was called, owned and operated a sewing business at Moosehead Stitchery, which included a Montgomery Ward outlet. In addition to her husband of 66 years, she is survived by a daughter, Vivian and husband, Charles Lee, of Hopkinsville, Ky., and their children, Stephanie and husband, Doug Wagoner, of Park City, Utah, and Jeremey Lee of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Burton and wife, Patty, of Greenville and their children, Amber Whitman of Presque Isle, David and girlfriend, Britney Sincyr, and son, Kyle, all of Greenville; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a number of brothers and sisters. Family and friends will be invited to a small gathering at a later date. Burial will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Auburn.
