FORT KENT – Gloria Oakes, 74, died peacefully Sept. 6, 2010, surrounded by her family at her residence. She was born June 13, 1936, in Houlton, the daughter of Leon and Annie (Bourgoin) Deschaine. Gloria worked as an industrial engineer for 35 years for Colt Fire Arms in Connecticut until her retirement in 1991. She was past president of Girl’s Colt’s Club, Hartford, Conn. When Gloria moved to Fort Kent in 2003, she became a member of Ladies of St. Anne and Senior Citizens Club. Her favorite past time was playing bingo. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria and her husband, Robert Sirois; four grandchildren, Lynette, Jessica, Keianna and R.J., all of Fort Kent; two brothers, her twin brother, Donald Deschaine of Okala, Fla., and Harold and his wife, Marcella Deschaine, of Enfield, Conn.; and three sisters, Madeline and her husband, Harold Martin, of East Hartford, Conn., Lorraine and her husband, Walter Reimers, of Leasburg, Mo., and Nancy and her husband, Arthur Pion, of Largo, Fla. She is also survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lindley Oakes, in 2002; two brothers, Leo Gilman and Norman Deschaine; and one sister, Geraldine Myers. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Committal services will be after at Oakes Family Cemetery, St. John.
