AUGUSTA and OLD TOWN – Mary P. Dahl, 88, passed from this life Sept. 5, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at Maine General Hospital, Augusta. She was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Houlton, daughter of Leroy and Marion (Pooler) Pomroy. Mary graduated from Houlton High School and attended Ricker College. On May 18, 1944, Mary married Joseph O. Dahl in Houlton. In 1946, they moved to Old Town, where they raised their six children. Mary supported Joe in the family business, Dahl’s Bakery, for many years. For 40 summers Mary and Joe enjoyed their cottage at Cold Stream Pond, Enfield. Later in life, after the sale of the bakery, they enjoyed spending winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. In 2000, Mary moved to Zephyrhills, Fla., to be closer to her daughter, Lois. In 2008, Mary moved back to Maine, residing at County Villa Retirement Inn, Bangor. She really enjoyed the company of the other residents and the wonderful care and attention from the staff. Mary was a longtime member of Old Town United Methodist Church and was active in Floyd Christopher Circle. She followed tennis from an early age and was active in swimming, shuffleboard and card games. Mary was a kind, gentle, caring and accommodating woman. She was a consummate mother, wife and homemaker. She had an infectious laugh, a wonderful spirit and loved the company of people. She appreciated life and all those around her. She was very proud of her family and all their accomplishments. She is survived by two daughters, Enga Stewart and her husband, John, of Augusta, and Lois Hahm and her husband, Roy, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; four sons, Joseph Dahl and his wife, Pamela, of Bangor, John Dahl and his wife, Judy, of Hermon, David Dahl and his wife, Pam, of Carmel, and Mark Dahl and his wife, Kathi, of Avondale, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Jane Pomroy of Chandler, Ariz., and Genevieve Dahl of Minneapolis; many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents; husband, Joseph; and her brother, John. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Old Town United Methodist Church where friends and family may call 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be after at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Old Town United Methodist Church, 744 Stillwater Ave., Old Town, ME 04468.
