CASCO, Maine — Police say they have charged the driver in a crash that killed two passengers in western Maine last weekend with two counts of manslaughter.
Twenty-year-old Nicholas Sparrow of Casco, whose license was suspended for a drunken driving charge, also was charged Wednesday with eluding a police officer, aggravated drunken driving and violation of probation conditions.
Police say Sparrow was racing away from a sheriff’s deputy when he crashed into trees early Sunday in Casco. Killed in the crash were 29-year-old Thomas St. Saviour of Hiram and 14-year-old Michael Daye of Baldwin.
Authorities say Sparrow was in Cumberland County Jail in Portland on Wednesday and is to appear in court Thursday.
