BANGOR and BREWER – Dante “Danny” Diana, 85, passed away Sept. 4, 2010. He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Tams, W.Va., son of Peter and Corina (Costantino) Diana. Danny was raised in Italy by his mother’s parents after her death when he was 2. At age 17, he moved back to the U.S. where he soon was drafted into the armed forces. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II at Normandy and was awarded the Purple Heart. Danny worked as a construction worker in New York City for many years. He also owned and operated his own business, building children’s furniture and accessories. Danny was a devoted member of St. John’s Catholic Church and choir, and a member of Knights of Columbus. Camping was truly his passion and he loved to do arts and crafts. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley (Tholl) Diana; daughter, Emily; son, Leonard; three grandchildren, Ruth-Anne, Russell and Wendy; three great-grandchildren, John, Christi and Taylor; and many dear friends. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Interment will be at a later date at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y.
