BANGOR and BREWER – Arthur “Lefty” Jacobs, 86, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born July 15, 1924, in Bangor, son of James and Alice (Pinkham) Jacobs. Lefty grew up in Bangor and was a graduate of Bangor High School; afterward he joined the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Lefty enjoyed careers with the Bangor Daily News, Longview Lumber and Coles Express. Lefty loved sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and University of Maine Football. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Kathleen (Downes) Jacobs; daughters, Terri Hutchins and her husband, Ernie, of Brewer and Carol Morrison of Brunswick; sister, Virginia Campbell and her husband, John, of Brewer; brother, Stanley Jacobs and his wife, Gloria, of Brewer; grandchildren, Denise Horr and her husband, Christopher, of Brewer, Mike Morrison and his wife, Doria, of Rockland, Mark Morrison and his partner, Becca, of Singapore, and Matt Morrison and his wife, Patti, of South Portland; step grandson, John Hutchins and family; great-grandchildren, Ellie, C.J., Kyle, Matt Jr., Emma and Madison; sister-in-law, Betty Jacobs of Brewer; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased a brother, James Jacobs. A service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. After the service relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
