LUBEC – Clayton Cecil Spencer, 63, died Sept. 9, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 12, 1947, in Machias, the son of Lewis and Vera (Fogle) Spencer I. He had a career in law enforcement spanning more than 30 years. He worked for the Machias Police Department, was a supervisor for Washington County Dispatch, a deputy for the sheriff’s department, and was a sergeant for the corrections department. He was a graduate of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Machias. He enjoyed history, reading and genealogy. He also enjoyed music, had a large record collection and was a disc jockey for WMCS radio. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was proud to have hitchhiked from New York to California in the 70s. He is survived by his wife, Fae (Erquhart) Spencer; two sons, Patrick Thomas and wife, Stacey, and Lewis W. Spencer II; a stepdaughter, Selina Marie Anthony; a stepson, Jason Anthony; five grandchildren, T.J., Jordan, Greg, Erika and Cody; two brothers, Robert and David; two sisters, Jeannette and Diane; four feline friends, Punkinhead, Baby Girl, Ginger and Little Buddy; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at McClure Family Funeral Services, corner of Charles Street and Drisko Street, Machias, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, with Pastor Gary Look officiating. Interment will be afterward at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make contributions in his memory may do so to a local animal shelter. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Machias and Lubec.
