MADAWASKA – Ronald L. Gerard passed away peacefully Sept. 12, 2010, at a Frenchville health care facility. He was born Feb. 21, 1927, in Madawaska, son of Edward and Marie (Bernier) Gerard. Ronald was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1945 to 1946, in Germany. He retired in 1985 from the U.S. Customs Service in Madawaska, Fort Kent and Escourt, and as area port director in Jackman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling for many years. Most recently he enjoyed spending his time reading, watching history videos and working in his garden. Ronald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeannine (Pelletier) Gerard of Madawaska; a son, John Gerard and his fiancee, Linda Profenno, of Brunswick; a daughter, Ruth Lane and her husband, Thomas, of Lauderhill, Fla.; three granddaughters, Daphne and Whitney Gerard of Brunswick and Briana Armstrong and her husband, Ben, of Bangor; a grandson, Ronald Lane of West Newton, Mass.; his precious great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Armstrong of Bangor; two sisters, Rochelle Boyer of Simi Valley, Calif., and Jenny Schocklin of Clearwater, Fla.; and two brothers, Harold Gerard of Madawaska and Valmon Gerard and his wife, Fern, of Chino Hills, Calif. In addition to his parents, Ronald was predeceased by a brother, Herman; and sisters, Rena Mae, Mildred, Adeline and Esther. His family acknowledges the very special care he received from St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Frenchville, and Visiting Nurses of Aroostook during his long battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at Lajoie Funeral Home. Interment will be held at a later date at the parish cemetery.
