BUCKSPORT – Richard E. O’Brien, 80, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010. He was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Calais, a son of James and Winifred (Smith) O’Brien. Richard served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for many years as a papermaker, retiring from Champion Paper Co. He was a five-year cancer survivor. Richard is survived by and will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 3/4 years, Ola (Robinson) O’Brien; his children, Richard D. O’Brien, Vicki Walker, both of Bucksport, Gary O’Brien and wife, Becky, of Hancock and Denise Littlefield and husband, Ray, of Lewiston; grandchildren, Kelli Cirillo and husband, Robert, Jayson LaPoint and wife, Raven, and Daniel Walker; great-grandchildren, Charity, Larry, Ashley and Noah; two sisters, Winifred Howard and Mary Snover; one sister-in-law, Marie Robinson; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Philip O’Brien; and one sister, Kathleen O’Brien. At Richard’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society New England Division, Inc., One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
