VERONA ISLAND – Vincent Allen DeCesere, 88, husband of Eunice E. (Quirion) DeCesere, departed this life Sept. 17, 2010, in Bangor. He was born Feb. 19, 1922, in Bangor, son of Alphonse and Isabelle (McLeod) DeCesere. Vincent attended Bangor schools and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps for a year prior to his enlistment in the U.S. Army. He later transferred to the Air Force and retired in 1970 after a military career of 30 years. He and Eunice married in Plattsburg, N.Y., June 1, 1945. During his career, he spent time in Rhode Island, Maine, Australia, New Guinea, Iceland, Kansas, California, Korea, England and Vietnam. Vince later began a career as a carpenter. Surviving in addition to his wife of Verona Island are three children, Vincent Jr. and his wife, Jody, of Orrington, Evander and his wife, Shawn, of Orrington and Glee Honders of Verona Island; grandchildren, Hans Honders of Verona Island and Nicole Fletcher and her husband, Arthur, of Hermon; great-grandchildren, Garret Allen Fletcher, Jacob Allen Fletcher and Kase Johannes Honders; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; an infant daughter, Wendy Ann DeCesere; and siblings, David and Frank DeCesere, Marguerite McKeague, Helen Gilbert, Paul and Norman DeCesere. A service with military honors celebrating Vince’s life will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where family and friends may visit 3 p.m. until the time of service.
