WASHBURN, BANGOR, OAKLAND and NEW GLOUCESTER – Amber Babb, 86, passed away peacefully Sept. 17, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Lewiston. She was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Washburn, the daughter of Isiah and Hattie (Searls) Brawn. Amber was raised in Washburn and attended schools in Glenburn. In her early years she made her home in Hudson. Amber worked for several years for the toothpick factory in Oakland. She worked for 30 years at Pineland Training Center, Pownal, as supervisor, where she had over sight of many staff. She was assisted by her dear friend and assistant supervisor, Avis Ford of New Gloucester. Her love for children was a good match with this job. Amber was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Bob C. Babb of New Gloucester; a sister, Leatha Howe of Washburn; good friends, Audrey Bolstridge of Corinna, Cathy Wells and family of Auburn, Lucian and Mary Richards of Auburn and Nora Smart of Levant; a dear first cousin, Doris Oliver of Fairfield; a brother-in-law, Bradley Babb of Upper Marlboro, Md.; nieces, Olive Galen of Levant and Lila Curtis of Levant; nephews, James Bournival and his wife, Kathie, of Newport and Carleton Curtis of Levant; many other nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 14 brothers and sisters. Friends may call noon until the time of service 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at Waugh Cemetery, Levant.
