DOVER-FOXCROFT – Barbara Ann Miller left us Sept. 16, 2010. Born Barbara Ann Layman Oct. 19, 1930, in Woburn, Mass., she grew up with six siblings, one her twin, on a farm in Shirley. She attended Greenville High School and worked in the veneer mill in Greenville after graduating. Becoming Barbara Miller when she married in 1955, her role as a military wife took her many places while raising four children during the course of 21 years. She returned to Maine and lived simply, deriving great pleasure from fishing, berrying, bowling and delivering her own special commentary on life in a small town and the world at large. Barbara held many jobs throughout the years, but her career was motherhood and then the role of grandmother. She was never too busy to take a young one fishing or share the joy of a child’s first “catch.” She encouraged many a child to pick enough field strawberries to get a “double batch” of jam or dig enough worms to fish. She will be missed by her family and friends. Her brothers, George and Arthur, along with her much missed son, Victor, have gone ahead and saved a place for her. She will be missed by her brother, Bill; and her sisters, Marion, Shirley and twin, Betty. She leaves behind three daughters, Sharon, Betty and Ann; along with many grandchildren. Those left behind assume that her fishing companions, Carrie Blood and June Collette, are waiting for her arrival, poles in hand. Barbara supported Community Church of Shirley and a scholarship fund at Greenville High School. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home.
