HOULTON – Frederic “Papa” McCormick, 77, passed away Sept. 18, 2010, at a local hospital. He was born Jan. 5, 1933, in Unity, the son of Alton and Sylvina (Curtis) McCormick. Fred, or Papa as he was fondly known by many, served in the U.S. Army. He was co-founder, co-owner and millwright at Katahdin Forest Products. He enjoyed his years working and spending time with friends in the “office.” Fred had a great love for the game of golf and working in his vegetable garden. His greatest love was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Papa was just an all-around positive happy-go-lucky guy. Fred is survived by his wife, Betty (Grotton) McCormick of Houlton; his children and their spouses, Kathy McCormick-Astle and husband, David, Brent and Susan McCormick and Tony and Tammy McCormick, all of Houlton; one brother, Maynard of Newport; sister, Eleanor Ward of Unity; six grandchildren, Kyle, Ian, Tessa, Duncan, Tom and Sam; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and one sister. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Littleton Henderson Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating.
