EAST FISHKILL, N.Y. – Eugene Frederick Blaisdell, 79, a resident of Dutchess County since 1959 and formerly of Old Town, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at Ferncliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck, N.Y. Born Jan. 8, 1931, in Bangor, he was the son of Leo Wilfred and Irene Averill Annis Blaisdell. He graduated from Bangor High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Japan and Korea during the Korean War. He graduated June 7, 1959, from the University of Maine, Orono, with a Bachelor of Education degree and June 9, 1968, from SUNY New Paltz with a Master of Science degree in education. He taught for three years in Dover Plains, N.Y., and then moved to East Fishkill, N.Y., when he was hired by Wappingers Central School District. He taught at Roy C. Ketcham High School from when it opened until his retirement in 1986. While attending the University of Maine, Orono, Eugene met Delcena Marie King who was employed at the college as a secretary. They soon fell in love and married Sept. 3, 1956, in Old Town. Dalacena predeceased him in 2007. Eugene and Delacena had three sons, Mark, in 1957, Dean, in 1961, and Jeffrey, in 1967. He is survived by his three sons; three grandchildren, Brandon and Andrew Blaisdell and Alicia Franclemont; two great-grandchildren, Alynn and Aidan; his daughters-in-law, Kim, Robin and Sherry; and his siblings, Richard Blaisdell and Helen Caldwell. Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, N.Y. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, N.Y. Interment with military honors will be afterward at St. Denis Cemetery.
