PRESQUE ISLE – Gary R. Ellis, 78, passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010. He was born Dec. 31, 1931, in Augusta, the son of Herbert and Adelle (Spencer) Ellis. Gary grew up in Augusta and was a graduate of Cony High School, where he loved and excelled at the sports he participated in. He joined the U.S. Air Force shortly after graduation, spending 20 years serving as a master engineer on missiles. After his discharge, Gary graduated from Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute as an electrician. He also served his community as a deputy sheriff and as a volunteer firefighter. Gary also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Linda (Beaulieu) Ellis of Presque Isle; four sons and their families, Maurice Ellis and his wife, Dannette, as well as their children, Desiree, Destiny and Derrick, Roger Ellis and his wife, Colleen, as well as their daughter, Rachel, Loren Ellis and his children, Christopher, Robert and Michelle, and Adrien Ellis and his wife, Katrina, and their children, Spencer and Kimberly; and a stepdaughter, Sheila Akeley and her children, Brandon and Mirandah Akeley. He also leaves behind two brothers, Wilber Ellis and his wife, Genieva, and Brett Ellis and Theresa; many nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of more than 30 years, Agnes (Lavaway) Ellis; and two brothers, Herbert and David Ellis. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant. Interment will take place at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery. After the committal there will be a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
