BANGOR and BREWER – Muriel Ann (Graffam) Martin, 72, wife of Willis L. Martin Jr., died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, in Bangor. She was born April 9, 1938, in Brewer, daughter of James Coleman and Beatrice Ellingwood Graffam. Muriel graduated from Brewer High School in 1956, and attended Washington State Teachers College and Husson College. For many years, she worked in area insurance offices and later at Barcadia Camp Ground on Mount Desert Island. Mrs. Martin was a member of First Universalist Church, Bangor and AUW Guild Association of Universalist Women, Beta Sigma Phi, Alpha Master Chapter and formally Jonathan Hunt Chapter No. 9 Order of Eastern Star, Hermon. Muriel enjoyed camping and traveling, and especially enjoyed supporting and interacting with the interests of her nieces, nephews and good friends. She was very loving and greatly loved. She is survived by her husband, “Marty” Martin; sister, Marilyn (Graffam) Clark; nephew, Paul and his wife, Nadine Lamareau, of Presque Isle; niece, Janet and her husband, Gregory Carter, of East Waterboro; her beloved great-niece and great-nephew, Emily and Jacob Cyr; and good friends, Ryan and Tim Kelley. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Joan. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, with the Rev. Mary Rebecca Gunn, of Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor, officiating. Interment will be after at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
