FAYETTE, Mo. – Priscilla Whitcomb Butler Lusby passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Golden Living Center, Glasgow, Mo., after struggling valiantly with cancer. Priscilla was born March 8, 1941, in Bangor, the daughter of Paul Grant and Katherine Whitcomb Butler. Priscilla received her nursing degree from Eastern Maine Medical Center School of Nursing, graduating in 1963. She was employed with Eastern Maine Medical Center as a registered nurse. She married Leon “Ollie” Lusby Jr., Dec. 22, 1963, in Maine. Due to Leon’s Air Force career, she lived in Maine and Maryland before settling in Fayette, Mo. While living in Maryland, she worked at Prince George Hospital. Priscilla began working at Keller Memorial Hospital, Fayette, Mo., in fall 1974. While working as charge nurse on the night shift, Priscilla assisted with the delivery of many babies. Priscilla served as day shift charge nurse, infection control officer and as director of nursing until 1995 with the closure of the hospital. Priscilla worked at Fayette Caring Center until her retirement in 2001. Priscilla served as a Cub Scout leader for Pack 62. Priscilla was also a devoted volunteer at Howard County Public Library, which brought her many cherished friendships. Priscilla will be especially remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor and her dedication to serve and care for others. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Leon Lusby Jr.; her three children, daughter, Terry and husband, Dean Beasley, of Parkville, Mo., and sons, Ollie Lusby III and wife, Laurisa, of Boise, Idaho, and Charles “Chuck” Lusby and wife, Crystal, of New Franklin, Mo. She also leaves behind four granddaughters; two grandsons; and her sister, Martha Dudley and husband, Richard, of West Falmouth. Priscilla was predeceased by her parents. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a visitation 1 p.m. until the time of memorial service 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Carr-Yager Funeral Home, Fayette, Mo. A private burial will be held later.
