BREWER – Polly McKay, 81, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at a local hospital after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Bangor, the daughter of Orren and Florence Sproul. Polly grew up in Bangor and graduated from John Bapst High School in 1947. She was a faithful communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Polly was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Co. and retired from Eastern Maine Medical Center. She enjoyed Saturday night dances, playing cards with her many friends, Tuesdays out with her girlfriends and camping at Green Lake with her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Gerald McKay of Brewer; two sons, Randy McKay and his wife, Pam, of Glenburn and Michael McKay and his wife, Debbie, of Holden; a brother, Bruce Sproul and his wife, Rose, of Brewer; her sister-in-law, Noreen Holt and her husband, Richard, of Hampden; a brother-in-law, David McKay of Otis; grandchildren, Megan McKay and her fiance, Craig Jones, of Bangor and Matthew McKay and his significant other, Deanna Thompson, of Charlotte, N.C.; three special nieces, Deborah Faucher and her husband, Kevin, of Brewer, Brenda Twaddell and her husband, Russell, of Greenville, S.C., and Robin Freese and her husband, Paul, of Brewer; and a nephew, Shawn Sproul and his wife, Terri, of Leominster, Mass. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Kenneth; her sister, Geraldine Dyer and her husband, Arthur “Mike” Dyer; and her grandson, Joshua. At Polly’s request, there will be a private service.
