ISLAND FALLS – Lona Pomeroy, 95, died Oct. 4, 2010, in Houlton. She was born Sept. 25, 1915, in Island Falls, the daughter of Fred and Etta (Martin) Pomeroy. She worked at Katahdin Farmers Exchange as an operator, was past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Molunkus Valley Chapter O.E.S. She is survived by one sister, Marietta DiSanto of Westfield, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Pomeroy of Caribou; three nieces, Paula Lilley of Smyrna, Etta Veysey of Topsham and Jane Foster of Caribou; and five nephews, Conrad Walton of Caribou, Randy DiSanto of The Villages, Fla., Fred Crocket of Casper, Wyo., David DiSanto of Burlington, Mass., and Bill Pomeroy of Chester, Va. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, James and Clifford; sisters, Evelyn Crockett and Eleanor Gellerson; and nephew, Robert Gellerson. The family thanks the staff at Madigan Estates for their loving care of Lona these past few years. Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, where funeral services will begin 1 p.m. with Pastor Amanda Wagner officiating.
