CONCORD, N.C. – On Oct. 5, 2010, Chaplain Charles William “Bill” Solomon, U.S. Navy, passed away at Morningside, Concord, N.C. After retiring as a Navy chaplain in 1973, he moved to Maine, where he taught language arts at a Passamaquoddy Indian school and worked to promote adult literacy. After the death of his wife, he moved to Decatur, Ga., then to Concord, N.C., to be near family. He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife of 26 years, Claire; and his stepson, Lt. Col. Paul McHugh. Survivors include three children, three stepchildren, 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of other relatives throughout the U.S. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Central United Methodist Church, Concord, N.C., with the Rev. Andy Langford and the Rev. Susannah Pittman officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at Coltrane Memorial Room. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in his honor to your local hospice, Communities-in-Schools or Preschool Fund at Central United Methodist Church, 30 Union St., North Concord, NC 28025.
