VEAZIE – Calvin “Jack” D. Otis, 82, died Oct. 10, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born the youngest of 11 children Aug. 9, 1928, in Madison, the son of Fred L. and Nina G. (Tracy) Otis. At age 7 he moved with his family to Veazie. He graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1947. Jack served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He served his community as a longtime selectman for the town of Veazie. Jack managed Blotner Trailer Sales for many years and then worked for Lou Silver Construction for 25 years. He was a member of the AF & AM Mechanics Lodge No. 66 and Eastern Star. Jack was a charter member of the former Veazie Jaycees as a past president and JCI senator. He loved the out-of-doors camping, riding his Harley and was a devoted Red Sox fan. He was a loving companion, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving companion of many years, Lee Honey of Veazie; sons, Stephen Otis and wife, Alison, of Abilene, Texas, Jay Otis and wife, Debra, of Holden, Daniel Otis of Bangor, and Robert Otis and wife, Beth, of Fort Mill, S.C.; a brother, Norman Otis of Orrington; grandchildren, Lindsay, Andrew, Brenton, Heather, Bryan and Lauren; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct 14, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, with Pastor David Fox, pastor of Veazie Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the interment at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
