AUGUSTA, Maine — Travis Roy, the former Boston University hockey player who was paralyzed from the neck down in his first college game in 1995, spoke of his own rise from adversity as he addressed Maine municipal leaders at their annual convention.
The Augusta native says he still feels frustration and has bad days, but he told the Maine Municipal Association on Tuesday that the lows are fewer and farther between.
The Kennebec Journal of Augusta says MMA officials chose Roy as keynote speaker because Roy’s comments put municipal officials’ worries in perspective.
Since graduating from Boston U, Roy has started a foundation which gave $88,000 in grants during the last quarter to spinal cord injury survivors.
