BANGOR – Arno “Slim” Foster Jr. passed Oct. 12, 2010, after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He will be forever remembered as an honorable man who faced this disease with courage and dignity, with a sense of humor and reality. Arno was born May 2, 1939, in Brewer, the son of Arno and Eleanor (Hodgins) Foster. He was an active member of Masonic Lodge No. 40, Ellsworth, and Anah Shriners and Shrine Funster’s Unit, Bangor. Arno leaves behind his significant other, Lois “Christina” Goddard and her five children; his son, Arno F. Foster III of South Berwick; his daughter, Sharon Decker and her two children, Stephanie and Alec, who lovingly earned the nickname of “Jughead” by his grandfather, all of Millinocket; his daughter, Christine and her husband, David Holden, and their two sons, Max and Mitchell, of Nashua, N.H.; three brothers, Wayne, Richard and Eddie Foster; four sisters, Diana Higgins, Nancy Oakman, Susie Grover and Pam Gardener and their spouses; as well as several extended family members. Along with family, Arno leaves behind two very special friends, Vanessa and Bruce Shirland, with whom he shared many fond memories. In addition to his parents, Arno was predeceased by his sister, Judi Oakman. Arno touched the hearts of many people. The family is grateful to all of those who supported him and his family. Friends are invited to join us for a Masonic service 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Lygonia Lodge, 140 Bucksport Road, Ellsworth, with Arno’s celebration of life immediately after.
