HERMON – Jean Eastman Keef, 96, died Oct. 13, 2010, at a local hospital. She was born Aug. 21, 1914, in Bangor, the daughter of Frank E. and Lizzie M. Eastman. Jean graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1932, and attended Boston School of Fine Arts. In her early 60s, she began classes at the University of Maine. At age 65, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature. She was a longtime member of the Nature Club and past president of Bangor Garden Club and Norumbega Club. For several years she served as a board member of the YWCA and Bangor Area Visiting Nurses. Jean worked and was a partner in the family pulpwood business for many years. She was an avid fan of the University of Maine basketball teams, which she had season tickets for years. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Keef Hunter and her husband, Steven, of East Hampton, N.Y.; and a son, Kurt A. Keef of Hermon. Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating.
