HAMPDEN – Carolyn Jane Powers Driensky passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 2010. Born Aug. 19, 1932, in Winn, she was the daughter of Inez and Nestor Powers, and sibling of Janette Powers Murphy. Carolyn graduated from Winn schools and went on to Lee Academy. She later graduated from Aroostook State Teachers College and taught in various schools throughout Maine, from Winn to Macwahoc. Carolyn married Donald B. Driensky, July 20, 1952, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Winn. During their 58 years of marriage, they were blessed with three children, Dana, Jennifer and Janet; and nine grandchildren, Jonathan, Daniel, Caitlin, Meaghan, Christopher, Eric, Alex, Jackson and Justin. Carolyn will be lovingly remembered for her cooking, especially applesauce and strawberry-rhubarb, her love of reading, the poems she wrote, knitting, rug-hooking, her love of the ocean and her favorite place – her family camp on Silver Lake, Lee. Memories of time spent with loved ones are abundant, watching movies, story telling, card playing – “May I?” -and tuna fish sandwiches and ginger ale. As we celebrate the life of Carolyn, we hold true to words she wrote: Don’t dwell on death, it’s just the shell that’s left. Go on with life and do what we can do, To help others and ourselves with living jest. And stay affair of death, defraud ourselves of this too. – Carolyn Driensky 1976 The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
