HARMONY – Rodney P. Campbell, 76, died Oct. 15, 2010, at a Skowhegan health care facility. Born May 20, 1934, in Sangerville, he was the son of Ivan D. and Effie M. (Russell) Campbell. Rodney married Lillian M. Cooley, Sept. 21, 1951, in Harmony. He was proud of the time he served in the U.S. Navy. He joined June 28, 1951. and was discharged June 27, 1959. During his time in the Navy he served on the USS Benner and the USS ATKA. He was the past road commissioner for the town of Harmony. He worked at Bartlettyarns Inc. for several years before his retirement. He was a member of Harmony Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years, during which time he was assistant chief for 13 years and captain for one year. He was also a member of the American Legion, Athens, and Harmony Patriarch’s Club. Rodney’s family was what he truly enjoyed and loved. When he wasn’t responding to fire calls for the town of Harmony or assisting with ambulance runs, he was running the radio for the fire department. He also cared for his wife for many years after she had a stroke. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lillian; five children, Phillip Campbell and his wife, Roberta, of Harmony, Norman Campbell and his wife, Rosie, of Parkman, Theresa Allen and her husband, Fred, of Palmyra, Jeffery Campbell and his wife, Maria, of Ellsworth and Kenneth Campbell and his wife, Anette, of Harmony; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Rodney was predeceased by his parents; and one granddaughter, Kimberley I. Campbell. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at North Road Cemetery, Harmony. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
