GARLAND – Merle Edwin Dancer, 72, died Oct. 20, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born Aug. 2, 1938, in Garland, son of Richard and Erma (Knight) Dancer. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Merle worked at Dexter Shoe Co. for more than 30 years and in later years, had been a volunteer driver for Lynx Transportation. He was a member of Dexter Pentecostal Church and had been serving the church as a deacon. He is survived by three daughters, Bernadette Parsons and husband, Eugene, of Garland, Antoinette Armstrong and husband, Glen, of Garland, and Rebecca Dancer and companion, Angie Gendron, of Dexter; a sister, Erma Francis Fletcher of Dexter; four grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer, Joshua and Chelsea; two great-grandchildren, Parker and Hailee; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend and companion, Juanita of Garland. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold; and a granddaughter, Veronica. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Dexter Pentecostal Church with Pastor Lyman Curtis Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Garland.
