GUILFORD and GREENVILLE – Megan Abele Hansen, R.N., 35, of Guilford, passed away Oct. 22, 2010, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, after a brief, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born Sept. 29, 1975, the daughter of James and Beatrice (Bradford) Abele. Megan graduated from Stearns High School, Millinocket, and went on to St. Joseph’s College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Her career path had taken her to many hospitals before “coming home” to Mayo Regional Hospital, where she has worked for the last six years. Megan had a passion for outdoor recreation, especially camping, photography and University of Maine hockey that she shared with her family. She taught us “life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, a margarita in one hand and a fun purse in the other, the body thoroughly used up and totally worn out, loudly proclaiming, “Wow, that was a ride!” Megan was a cherished daughter and sister, devoted wife and mother, and trusting loyal friend whose passion for nursing touched all her co-workers and patients. Megan enriched the lives of everyone she touched. She leaves behind her husband, Josh Hansen; sons, Tyler and Seth; her father and mother, Jim and Bea Abele; her sister, Donna Shorette and her family, Jason, Emma and Trevor; her sister, Erin Abele; best friend forever, Jami Marston Barth; mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law, Pam and Jim Quirke; sister-in-law, Nicole Quirke; many aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of Megan’s life will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Crosby & Neal Greenville chapel, located at the Masonic building, 281 Pritham Ave., with a time for visitation with Megan’s family afterward. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Megan Abele Hansen, R.N., Nursing Scholarship Fund, care of Camden National Bank. For an online guest register, please go to www.CrosbyNeal.com.
