ROCHESTER, N.H. – Leon Meader, 101, of 23 Meaderboro Road, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Havenwood Heritage Heights, Concord, N.H. He was born Nov. 27, 1908, in Rochester, N.H., son of the late Albert and Eunice (Scruton) Meader. He was a graduate of Wheaton (Ill.) College with a Bachelor of Divinity degree and was a pastor in Charleston for many years. He then received his Master of Education degree from the University of Maine and served as headmaster at Higgins Classical Institute. He then moved to Massachusetts and taught in the Waltham, Mass., school system for many years. Mr. Meader moved back to Rochester, N.H., to be on the family farm. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and canoeing. Leon was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Jacobus) Meader; and three sisters. He is survived by three sons, Bud and wife, Ruth Meader, of Rochester, N.H., David and wife, Mary Jo Meader, of Clovis, Calif., and Neil and wife, Barbara Meader, of Westford, Mass.; a special friend, Sharon Stoddard of Concord N.H.; six grandchildren, Robert and wife, Polly Meader, Lorraine and husband, Dana Rines, all of Rochester, N.H., Linda and husband, Dean Beachy, of Ohio, Dan Meader of Clovis, Calif., Debbie Kervin of Orange, Calif., and Anna Meader of Westford, Mass.; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, the Rev. Dwight Meader and wife, Lois, of Rochester, N.H.; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in the chapel of R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, N.H. Burial was at Friends Cemetery, Meaderboro Road, Rochester, N.H.
