MILLINOCKET and GREENVILLE – Ernest B. “Bart” Harvey III, 68, died Oct. 30, 2010, surrounded by his family, in Shirley. He was born April 8, 1942, son of Ernest and Erma (Sawyer) Harvey II. He graduated from Greenville High School, Class of 1960, and from the University of Maine, Orono, with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry, and a Master of Science degree in forest economics. He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, receiving a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. Bart lived in Millinocket for 40 years, where he worked for Great Northern Maine Paper Co., for more than 30 years. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Millinocket, serving as trustee, deacon, choir member and sang with a group called Revelation. He was also member and past chairman of Millinocket Regional Hospital Board of Directors. He was a member of Maine Land Use Regulation Commission for 10 years, and served as chairman for six years. He was also an active member of Society of American Foresters, and was an active participant in the University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation. Bart enjoyed boating and sailing on Moosehead Lake. He also enjoyed traveling and was an accomplished woodworker. He is survived by a son, Robert Harvey and his wife, Robbin, and their two children, Allison and Ashley, all of Rhinelander, Wis.; a daughter, Jan Barbas and her husband, Tom, and their children, Emma and Jake, all of Woburn, Mass.; two sisters, Keyth Carter and her husband, Charles, of Shirley, and Kay Macklin and her husband, Dr. John Macklin, of Waterville; a sister-in-law, Kathy Murray and her husband, Darryl, of Greenville; mother-in-law, Bernice Smith of Greenville; loving friend, Patsy Watt of Belfast and her three daughters, Sharon Gallardo, Katie Watt and Patty Watt; grandson, Brandon; many special aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Emilynn J. “Kitty” Harvey, in 2002. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Union Church, Greenville, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, with Dr. Robert L. Veon officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Greenville Cemetery.
