CARIBOU and PRESQUE ISLE – Margaret Mitchell Brewer, 90, went to be with her Lord Nov. 1, 2010, with her family by her side. Born July 9, 1920, in Green Hill, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of Perry and Mary Mitchell of Caribou. She was a 1938 graduate of Caribou High School and graduated in 1941 from Aroostook State Normal School, now University of Maine at Presque Isle, with a teaching degree. It was there that she met her future husband, Freeman Brewer of Presque Isle. She was a homemaker for many years, and substitute taught occasionally in Caribou schools. After her three children were grown, she worked at Caribou Public Library for several years. Margaret was a 77-year member of Gray Memorial Methodist Church, Caribou. She enjoyed playing bridge, cribbage, bowling, curling, reading and collecting hummels. She was predeceased by her husband, Freeman “Chink,” in 1993. Margaret made her home for the past six years at Leisure Village, Presque Isle. The family thanks the staff there for their tender loving care. She leaves behind her three children, Sandra May and Jack of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Richard Brewer and Susan of Richmond, Va., and Brenda Brewer of Joliet, Ill.; her loving sister and best friend, Mary K. Mitchell of Caribou; sister, Norma Shafer of Texas; three grandchildren, Dean May and Martina of Czech Republic, Catherine Caltabiano and Steve of Cameron Park, Calif., and Taylor Brewer of Richmond, Va.; as well as three great-grandchildren, Rachel and Zachary Caltabiano, and Tomas May. The family also thanks the staff at Presque Isle Nursing Home for their compassionate end of life care of Margaret. A private family burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
