ELLSWORTH – Hannah Margaret Jaffray, 28, died gracefully Oct. 25, 2010, at Birchwood Living Center, Ellsworth, from complications resulting from Rett Syndrome. She was born April 23, 1982, in Waterville, the second child of Barbara and Jim Jaffray Jr. of Blue Hill. For the past seven years Hannah has resided at Birchwood Living Center, Ellsworth, a wonderful and loving facility that cares for developmentally disabled adults. With the help of her family and friends at Birchwood, she enjoyed a wide variety of activities, including Camp Capella, cooking, arts and crafts, sledding, fishing and slumber parties. Despite her inability to speak, Hannah left a mark on everyone that she met. She was an affectionate and happy individual who said more with her smile and her eyes than many people can express in words. Hannah’s courage and determination to make the best of her condition was an inspiration to her friends and family. In addition to her parents, Hannah is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Wilson King, and their son, Aubrey; her brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Nikki Jaffray and their daughters, Lily and Grace; her grandfather, James F. Jaffray; her aunts and uncles, Kate and Robert Tapley, Lucy Jaffray, and Joan and John Farr; and her cousins, Anna Tapley, Noah Tapley and Aimi Baldwin. Hannah also leaves behind many loving friends at Birchwood, friends who she considered to be as much her family as her relatives were. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Margaret Jaffray, Arleen and Robert Curtis; and stepgrandmother, Helen Jaffray. Hannah’s family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Yesterday’s Children, Inc., P.O. Box 829, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Donors should state that their gifts are to be used for “non-medicaid reimbursed expenses.”
