NEWPORT – Opal Elizabeth Gray, 83, passed away Nov. 5, 2010, with her loving family by her side, at her residence. She was born July 2, 1927, in Blaine, a daughter of Gail Pierson and Marion Ada (Piper) Green. She graduated from Aroostook Central Institute, Mars Hill, Class of 1945. On Nov. 9, 1948, she was married to Carl E. Gray by the Rev. John Miller. Opal had been employed at Friend and Friend, Edward’s Co., Berry’s Village Shop, The Corner Store and Newport High School in the hot lunch program. She attended People’s United Methodist Church, Newport. She was an avid reader, loved poetry, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and especially family gatherings, as she enjoyed her family the most. Opal is survived by her husband of 62 years, Carl of Newport; three children, Larry Gray of Newport, Sherry Rogers and her companion, Richard Kniffin, of Corinna and Bonnie and husband, Gil Levesque, of Newport; a brother, Ronald Kinney of Avon, Conn.; two sisters, Wanda and husband, Maynard Dahlgren, of Pittsfield and Margaret Thompson of Suffield, Conn.; two special grandchildren, Tyler and Amber Levesque; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Ann; a brother, Wendell Green; a sister, Ida Curtis; a sister-in-law, Debbie Kinney; and a niece, Patricia Jordan. A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at People’s United Methodist Church, 131 Main St., Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Newport.
