HAMPDEN — Richmond junior forward Danica Hurley scored an unassisted goal with 17:58 left in the game to lift the Richmond Bobcats to a 1-0 girls soccer victory over the Van Buren Crusaders in the Class D state final Saturday at the Hampden Academy field.

Hurley took the ball at the 18-yard line, raced in toward goalie Ashley Wilson, made her commit and then drove a laser-beam shot into the lower left corner.

Van Buren’s best scoring opportunity came with 24 minutes left in the first half when Chantal Rioux fired a corner kick that resulted in three Van Buren shots on goal, all stopped by Richmond goalkeeper Lindsey Hoopingarner.

Hoopingarner finished with seven saves on eight shots while Wilson made eight saves on 10 shots.

Western Maine champ Richmond (16-1) showed off crisp passing and good overall team speed.

The Eastern Maine champ Crusaders finished 12-5-1.
