SKOWHEGAN – Marguerite Sarah Jones Moody, 96, passed on to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, Nov. 7, 2010, one day before her 97th birthday. She was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Burnham, the daughter of Rose (Houston) and Wilbur Jones. She was raised from the age of six to adult by Lamont and Clara Appleby on Jewett Street, Skowhegan. Marguerite graduated from Bloomfield Academy, Skowhegan, in 1932, but took an additional year to study ancient history. She was employed by New England Telephone before marrying Leslie Ray Moody, June 1, 1940, in Cornville. Marguerite and Leslie worked a small farm on Beans Corner Road, West Pittsfield, from 1942 until they moved to Skowhegan to live with their daughter, Joyce Palmer and her husband, Elwood, in November 1995. She was a very loving and dedicated mother, always showing great interest in the spiritual, as well as physical welfare, of her children. She was a very active member of Canaan Calvary Church for many years while living on the farm in Pittsfield and also Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Skowhegan, playing the piano and organ since her teenage years, where she started playing at Bethany Baptist Church, Skowhegan. Marguerite was predeceased by her parents; husband; six siblings: four sisters, Vera, Kathleen, Bernice and Amanda; and two brothers, Percey and Wendall. She is survived by a sister, Frances Hammond of South Paris; a son, Colburn and wife, Ellen; a daughter, Joyce Ann; two granddaughters, Debra Moody of Long Island, N.Y., and Tracy and husband, Donald Ewing, of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; one great-grandson, Brady Ewing; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Myron Moody and wife, Emily, of Cornville, Allen Moddy and wife, Beverly, of Houlton and Willis Moody and wife, Angeline, of Sheboygan, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Amy Stevens of Delmont, S.D.; and special friends, Lorraine Amazene McLaughlin of Glenburn, Betty Bolstridge, Earl and Theresa Nichols and Sheila Hunt. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Woodlawn Nursing Home, Skowhegan, during her stay in February and March 2010, and the staff and volunteers at hospice for the wonderful care of our mother until her passing. Visitation will be held noon until the time of service Thursday, Nov. 11, at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Skowhegan, with the funeral service held 1 p.m. with Pastor Richard Berry officiating. A committal service will be afterward at East Ridge Cemetery, Cornville.
