BREWER, BANGOR and EASTPORT – James “Jim” Warren, 89, died peacefully Nov. 8, 2010, at his home. He was born March 23, 1921, in Lubec, the son of Milroy and Lois (Peacock) Warren. During World War II Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy Pacific Theater. He graduated from Deerfield Academy, Deerfield, Mass., and Bowdoin College with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Jim married Catherine L. McCurdy, Sept. 18, 1943. He was employed at R.J. Peacock Canning Co., Eastport, from 1946 to 1961. He then purchased B. H. Wilson Fisheries in 1961 and operated it until 1975 when he moved to Brewer and became executive secretary for the Maine Sardine Council. He served as a member and chair of Eastport City Council, a member and past president of Eastport Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, a member and former secretary-treasurer of the Eastern Maine Development Corp. board of directors, and a member and former president of Eastport Rotary Club. Jim served as treasurer of Associated Fish Products Co.; was a member of the board of directors of F.J. O’Hara & Sons, Inc.; executive secretary of Associated Fisheries of Maine; president of Maine Sardine Packers Association; member and chair of Maine Sardine Council; member of the board of directors and treasurer of Hinkley Point, Dennysville; member of National Canners Association board of directors; member and chair of National Canners Association Fishery Products Committee; industry advisor for U.S.-Canadian Bilateral Fishing Agreement Negotiations; U.S. advisor for ICNAF; president of New England Fisheries Steering Committee; member of the Industry Sector Advisory Committee for Department of Commerce for GATT Trade Negotiations; member of Seafood Council for National Food Processors Association; member of the Seafood Technical Committee for National Food Processors Association; member and chair of the advisory council for state of Maine Department of Marine Resources; codex alementarious member of Fish and Fishery Products Committee, Bergen, Norway; member of Associated Fisheries of Maine; Fisheries Mission, U.S. Export Development to Japan; a member of Maine Department of Transportation Fish Pier Needs Advisory Committee and the task force; member of New England Fisheries Development Program; member and vice president of New England Development Foundation board of directors; a member of New England Representative, Saltonstall/Kennedy National Review Panel; member of the University of Maine Food Science Department Advisory Committee; member of Advisor Herring Oversight Committee; and member and chair of the executive committee of New England Fishery Management Council. Jim enjoyed playing golf and boating on the Maine and New Brunswick coasts. After his stroke in 1993 he wrote four books: “The Warren Genealogy-Descendants of James Warren 1622-1702,” “Maine Sardine Industry History 1875-2000,” “Maine Blueberry Industry History 1865-2002” and “Maine Sardine Brands.” Surviving are his wife, Catherine (McCurdy) Warren of Brewer; one brother, Robert P. Warren of Bedford, N.H.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Donald C. Warren, Stanley P. Warren and John G. Warren; and by one sister, Dorothy W. Crane. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
