NEWPORT – Mabel Avis Bradford, 84, died Nov. 16, 2010, at a Bangor health care facility, after a brief illness. Mabel was born April 5, 1926, in Dexter, the daughter of Clifford W. and Laura E. (Hatch) Parker. She graduated from Guilford High School and attended Farmington Normal School. She married Phillip T. Bradford, April 15, 1947, in Newport. He predeceased her July 11, 1991. Mabel was very active in the Cub Scouts serving as a den mother when her boys were growing up. She worked at the school hot lunch program in Newport for several years. In 1967 Mabel and Phillip moved to the Wiscasset area during the time Phillip was employed at Bath Iron Works. During this time she was employed as a nurse’s aide at the Bath hospital, a job she had done for many years in Dexter and Pittsfield. Mabel moved back to Newport in 1992 after the death of her husband. Mabel loved to sew and was an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting items for her family. She was a former member of Rebekah Lodge, Newport. One of Mabel’s favorite places was her camp on Ebeemee Lake, Brownville. She really enjoyed sitting by the water and reading and watching the wild life. She is survived by one son and his wife, David and Debbie Bradford of Millinocket; one daughter, Janice Bradford of Alna; one sister and her husband, Eunice and William Potter of Alna; three grandchildren, Lawrence Bradford, Donald Bradford and Laura Bradford; four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be remembered by a special friend, Fay Towle. She was predeceased by two sons, Charles and Alan; a brother, Harold; and a grandson, Steven. Friends may call noon until the time of service Monday, Nov. 22, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, with funeral services conducted 1 p.m. with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
