EAST MACHIAS – Frances (Hanscom) Moran, 81, died peacefully Nov. 17, 2010, with her family at her side at home. She was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Marshfield, the daughter of Lelia and Herbert Hanscom Sr. She lived in Washington County her entire life. Her loving and devoted husband, Frederick, predeceased her in 2003. Frances attended high school and college in Machias and was a member of Kappa Alpha Kappa sorority. She was a true “Down Easter” – very independent and committed to her beliefs. She held several jobs during her lifetime and did volunteer work, including teaching Sunday school and as a 4-H leader. Her primary and most valued job was providing a loving home for her family. She had a great spirit and enjoyed many things, including painting, antiques, dancing and spending time at camp. When her children were young, they took regular Sunday drives, picnicked and took yearly camping trips out of state. Frances is survived by daughter, Bonnie Moran of East Machias; son, Michael and wife, Jeannine, of Bangor; daughter, Cathy Parsons and husband, Steve, of Troy; grandchildren, Isaac, Micah and Kristen Moran; great-grandchildren, Ariyana and Ethan Moran; siblings Herbert and Ivan Hanscom; several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
