SIPAYIK – Joseph M. Bailey, 72, passed away Nov. 20, 2010, at a Boston hospital with his family at his side. He was born March 15, 1938, in Sipayik, son of the late Louis and Josephine (Gabriel) Bailey. After graduation from Shead High School, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. He then attended Washington County Community College where he trained to be a mason and then went on to work at the Georgia Pacific mill, retiring after 34 years in 2000. After retirement he enjoyed carpentry and socializing with his friends at the meal site playing cards. He is survived by three daughters, Celeste Bailey and fiance, Jim Harbaugh, Rose Bailey and her husband, Mostafa Bensidi, and Francesca Bailey; five grandchildren, Ariel, Adam, Rhiannon, Mallory and Emily; a sister, Martha Nicholas of Pleasant Point; sister-in-law, Betty Bailey; many nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Gracie and Chester Davis, Edwin Dana, and Lisa Bassett; and his three special pets, Wocawson, Minsiss and Daisy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers. Friends are invited to visit with the family noon-midnight Friday, Nov. 26, at Meal Site Bayview Drive, Sipayik. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Sipayik, by Father James Plourde. Interment will be after at Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec and Machias.
