WALDOBORO – Dorothy Evelyn (Harden) Scott, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, surrounded by her family at her home. Dorothy died one year to the day of her husband’s death. She was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Rockland to Fred and Aubine (Cables) Harden. Dorothy was educated in Rockland schools and graduated from Rockland High School, Class of 1945. After high school she worked at St. Clair & Allen Confection Store, Rockland. She married Gordon Scott in 1950. Early in their marriage, Dot enjoyed cooking and hosting her parents for dinner every weekend for homemade baked beans and brown bread. Dot helped on the farm raising their children. Dorothy was a member of Knox-Lincoln Women’s Farm Bureau and The Odds & Ends Club. Dorothy and Gordon spent many years volunteering for the Maine Blueberry Commission at the Big E, Springfield, Mass., and at the blueberry booth at the Union Fair. They went to many Farm Bureau Conventions in Las Vegas, Kansas City, Mo., and Florida. In her youth she attended Rockland Congregational Church. Dot spent her life in loving support of her family and following their activities. She cherished her time with her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Gordon H. Scott; brothers, Fred Harden Jr., Sidney Harden and Richard Harden; and sisters, Lura Sawyer and Elizabeth Ogier. She is survived by a son, Larry Scott and his wife, Dale, of Waldoboro; daughters, Susan Overlock and her husband, Robin, of Warren and Linda Powell and her husband, Steven, of Thomaston; sister, Louise Carroll of Rockland; grandchildren, Samuel Overlock and his wife, Jennifer, of Warren, Joe Overlock and his wife, Amanda, of Machias, Rebecca Overlock of Warren, Benjamin Scott and his wife, Amber, of Waldoboro, Daniel Scott of Waldoboro, Amanda Powell of Thomaston and Alexander Powell of Thomaston; three great-grandchildren, Emma and Evelyn Overlock of Warren and Bradley Overlock of Machias; sister-in-laws, Erleen Martin of Rockland and Florida, Joyce McLain of Waldoboro and Gloria Scott of Waldoboro; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Rockland Congregational Church, 180 Limerock St., Rockland, where a reception will be held afterward. A private committal for the family will be held prior to the service at Shuman Cemetery, Route 220 North, Waldoboro.
