CAMDEN – Ruby E. Moody, 93, a longtime resident of Camden, died Nov. 18, 2010, at Knox Center for Long Term Care. She was born April 10, 1917, in Sidney, Mont., the daughter of Harry and Carrie Hanson. She graduated from Waupaca (Wis.) High School, studied infant nursing in Chicago, and married Richard “Dick” Moody of Camden, June 6, 1942, in Waupaca, Wis. After living in Rhode Island for several years, they moved to Camden in 1946. She was a member of Chestnut Street Baptist Church for her adult life, where she served for many years as a Pioneer Girls leader, as Chadavae member and as a member of the Mission Circle. She served as Mission Circle president for about 15 years. She was a devoted mother who spent the early years of her married life raising her six children and worked many years in the kitchen at Camden Community Health Care Center. She was a skilled gardener of vegetables and flowers, sewed many of her children’s clothes, loved to make quilts and braided rugs, and was an active bowler in the Women’s League at Camden YMCA. Ruby enjoyed most of all being with members of her large family, of whom she was very proud. Ruby was predeceased by her husband in 1984; her sisters, Alfa and Myrtle; and brothers, Gerhardt and Marvin. She is survived by her brother, Earl and his wife, Persis, of Prior Lake, Minn.; her sister-in-law, Evelyn Hanson of Green Bay, Wis.; and brothers-in-law, James Moody of Appleton and Philip Moody of Hope and their families. Ruby is survived by her six children: sons, Roger and his wife, Audrey, of Camden, Richard and his wife, Carol, of Cushing, Robert and his wife, Christie, of Gadsden, Ala., Raymond and his wife, Naoma, of Lovettsville, Va., and Ronald and his wife, Nancy, of North Andover, Mass., and daughter, Ruth Ann Allen and her husband, Richard, of Germantown, Md.; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. The memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Chestnut Street Baptist Church, 29 Chestnut St., Camden, with the Rev. Adam Kohlstrom officiating. A reception will be held immediately after in the Tucker Room on the second floor of Camden Opera House. Interment will be private at Oak Hill Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chestnut Street Baptist Church, P.O. Box 833, Camden, ME 04843.
