CORINNA and BREWER – Shirley R. Doughty, 81, wife of Merton R. “Mike” Doughty, died Nov. 25, 2010, at a Brewer health care center. She was born July 2, 1929, in Brewer, the daughter of Benjamin and Ruby (McLaughlin) Osgood. Shirley worked as a clerk at WT Grant, Bangor, for several years and retired from Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, after 20 years working as a unit secretary in maternity. She was a devoted and understanding wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved the times she spent with her family. Shirley was an excellent cook, enjoyed crafts and dining out and belonged to a rug-hooking club. She may be remembered by some for her painting of the hospital windows during the Christmas season. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 62 years of Corinna, are five children, Stephen W. Doughty and his wife, Jan, of Bristol, Conn., Jane L. Parker and Herman of Corinna, Michael H. Doughty and his wife, Diana, of Livermore, Laurie VanDyne and her husband, Chris, of Lakeville Hills, Texas, and Kathy-Jo Wardwell and Josh of Glenburn; 12 grandchildren, Bonnie Lucas and Stephen Doughty Jr., Lurinda Cote, Elizabeth Wood, Christopher Rivers, Brian and Wayne Doughty, Morgan and Levi VanDyne, Crystal Wardwell, Ashley and Tyler Bailey; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Judy Hayes and her husband, Richard, of Dover, Del.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Rose Doughty, in 1963; two sisters, Louise Obey and Virginia Dinger; and two brothers, James and Benjamin Osgood. Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, for a time to celebrate Shirley’s life and to share memories.
