CHERRYFIELD – Leitha Mae Schoppee, 70, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at home. She was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Newcastle, New Brunswick, to Mary L. Cope and Michael L. Bernard. Leitha was a survivor of Shubenacadie Indian Residential School and attended Maubue Convent. She was an excellent cook and dedicated homemaker. She loved fishing, hunting, bingo and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Knapp of Cherryfield; two sons, Mark Schoppee and his fiancee, Erika Schoppee, of Cherryfield and Eric Schoppee and his fiancee, Rhonda Golding, of Addison; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother, Lemuel Bernard; and two sisters, Matilda Bernard and Linda Maloney and her husband, Steve, all of Nova Scotia; a special niece, Pam MacLeod; many other special nieces, nephews and cousins; her beloved dog, Flash; and special friends, Quinton King and the Anderson family. She was predeceased by her parents; her granddaughter, Kaylee Mae Schoppee; a brother, Lemuel Bernard; and a sister, Nora Bernard. There will be a celebration of life 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at her home, 21 Ridge Road, Cherryfield. A private graveside ceremony will be held after.
