PERRY – Noel Lee Neptune, 79, died Nov. 25, 2010, at a Portland hospital. He was born April 12, 1931, in Sipiyak, son of the late Benjamin and Christina (Socobasin) Neptune. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and was awarded three Battle Stars serving in the 45th Infantry Division Artillery Unit during the Korean War. He was an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 11299. In his younger years, he worked as a basket maker and woodsman and later worked as a heavy equipment operator. He retired as a truck driver after 28 years. He also enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Pauline Marie (Lola); a son, John Nicholas; and brothers, Benjamin II, William, Wilbert and Paul. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his children, Elaine Mitchell, Justin Lola, Allison Lola and wife, Cindy, Mary Jacqueline Lola, Lynn Smith Neptune and Willie Neptune and wife, Patricia; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marion Francis, Clara Polches and Pauline Humphries; a brother, Joseph R. Socoby; special nephews, to name a few, Gunzy and Horace Neptune Sr.; many other nieces, nephews and cousins; and close friends, Cyndi Lewey, Edward Nicholas and Ralph Smith Sr., among the few of many friends. All are invited to visit with the family for a traditional wake Sunday until 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Noel’s home, 735 Route 1, Perry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann’s Church, Sipiyak, by Father James Plourde. Burial will be afterward at Tribal Cemetery, Sipayik. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec and Machias.
