FORT FAIRFIELD – Lawrence Saucier, 91, husband of the late Agnes M. (Grass) Saucier, passed away Monday morning, Nov. 29, 2010, at a Caribou health care facility, after a brief illness. He was born July 9, 1919, in Caribou, son of Henry and Rose (King) Saucier. He was educated in the Madawaska and Fort Fairfield schools systems, and was a graduate of Presque Isle High School. He married Agnes M. Grass, June 24, 1947, and resided in the home that they built together on Presque Isle Street in 1959. He served his country during World War II, from April 1942 to November 1945, in the U.S. Army Air Corps where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant, serving in the Panama Canal Zone and Rey Island as a radio operator. He was a lifelong communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, and was a life member of Fort Fairfield Veterans of Foreign Wars, Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187. He had been employed at the former Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, as a carpenter from 1950 to 1952, at which time he became employed with the U.S. Civil Service as an engineering technician until his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed the serenity of the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his wife, Agnes, Sept. 16, 2010; two daughters, Brenda and Diana M. Saucier; and four brothers, Eddie Evans, Octave, Edmond and John Saucier. He is survived by his son, Gary L. Saucier of Limestone; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Gary McNeal of Fort Fairfield; two grandchildren, Mia Blood and her husband, Kevin, of Manchester, Tenn., and Denise Levesque and her husband, Don, of Orrington; three great-grandchildren, Michael Mattoon of Manchester, Tenn., Jacob Levesque of Orrington and Haley Blood of Manchester, Tenn.; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Aaron Damboise. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Aaron Damboise, celebrant. Spring interment with military honors will take place at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral Mass at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, 64 Presque Isle St., Fort Fairfield.
