SKOWHEGAN – Anthony D. “Sam” Hughes, 56, died unexpectedly Nov. 30, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. Anthony was born July 29, 1954, in Bangor, the son of Harold S. and Hazel (Lawrence) Hughes. He was a graduate of Hermon High School, Class of 1972. Anthony was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving for four years. He married Jessica Randall Dec. 7, 1974, in Newport. He was employed as an electrical instrumentation technician working at Scott Paper and S.D. Warren, and at the time of his death he was employed at Sappi Fine Paper Co. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union in Skowhegan. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing. Anthony is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jessica M. Hughes of Skowhegan; two sons, Spc. Guy A. Hughes, U.S. Army, of Fayette, N.C., and Aaron Hughes and his wife, Mary, of Cornville; two granddaughters, Bridget and Rylee Hughes, both of Cornville; his brother, Harold Hughes II of Newport; two sisters, Elois and Thomas Gagliardo of Newport and Sue Bruce of Lexington Park, Md.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be remembered by many close friends. At his request, there are no public services. Spring internment will be at Highland Cemetery, Carmel.
