BOSTON and HAMPDEN – Donald L. Jacobsen, 81, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, after a long illness. Donald was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Hampden, son of Louis and Doris Jacobsen. Donald was very proud of his service to his country from 1947 to 1951. Upon return, he moved to Boston where he graduated from Burdett Business School in 1955. Donald will best be remembered for his 38 years as a salesman in the men’s department at downtown Filene’s Basement, Boston. Donald made many friends with his coworkers and devoted customers. Donald touched many lives with his humor, kindness and genuine love to give and help anyone in need. He loved to show off “his Boston” to his family members during their visits where many memories were made. Donald was one of nine children and was predeceased by three sisters, four brothers and a great-nephew. He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Clark of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his dear friend, Brenda Crooms; and special friends and devoted caregivers, Mark Bocash and Keith Gnoza. Special thanks to his niece, Carolyn Corey of Brewer for her loving care and constant commitment during Donald’s illness. At Donald’s request there will be no formal funeral service. A graveside service will be held in the spring at a time and date to be announced. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
