BANGOR – Maurice F. Curtis, 92, husband of his late beloved wife, Sadie “Sally” (Stewart) Curtis, died Dec. 1, 2010, surrounded by his daughter, Katherine; son, Scott; and granddaughter, Ashley. He was born March 23, 1918, in Stockton Springs, son of Gordon Curtis and Gladys (Munroe) Nickerson. Maurice was a graduate of Stockton Springs High School and the University of Maine. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and Navy in World War II and Korea. After retiring, he and his beloved late wife owned and operated several senior citizen’s boarding homes in the Brewer area. He co-owned and operated the Winterport Airport where he loved to fly and teach flying. He was proud to be known as one of the best flight instructors in New England. At the same time he went on to further his education at the University of Maine in psychology and furthered his career in counseling in private practice. Maurice and his beloved, Sally, went to the Philippines, Hong Kong and Mexico, as missionaries until her passing Nov. 12, 1996. Maurice and Sally loved their Christian work; serving their Lord. They loved evangelizing everywhere they went, whether in the Bangor/Brewer area or overseas. Maurice attended Apostolic Lighthouse Church, Bangor, where he served as a deacon. He loved working with his pastor and dear friend, the Rev. Charles Hurst. Surviving are his children, Scott Perkins of Orono, Katherine Page and her husband, David J. Page, of East Millinocket, and Brenda Walters Hanke of Florida; stepchildren, Clifford Miller and his wife, Sally, of Madison, Sandy Miller and his wife, Sherri, of Hampden, and Alice DeRoche and her husband, John, of Kennebunkport; and two special grandchildren, Raquel Dishon and Ashley Nicole Page. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Curtis. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at Apostolic Lighthouse Church, 517 Hammond St., Bangor, with the Rev. Charles Hurst, pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call one hour prior to the service. After the service the family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the church. Interment with military honors will be held noon Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
